Wake up call
So yesterday was the New Years Party. And EVERY year I say "This is my year. This is the year I will get it together and finally lose the weight and take my life back and live it to the fullest." Sadly, that is still my resolution. But this year I added to have as much fun as possible by doing everything I want to do without letting my weight hold me back. My ultimate New Years resolution is that next new years, I won't have any regrets. I am honestly so ready to commit full on. I did so good with eating at the party!! I was so proud! But what really hit me was a show that I am actually watching right now. I don't know what it's called but it's on TLC and it really woke me up. It's about this woman who weighed more than 800 lbs and she wanted to get bipass surgery. She was doing well and suddenly just died. Her weight KILLED her. And I thought to myself, "How can someone let themselves get to that point?" But then I realized that it just happens when you live that unhealthy of a lifestyle. And the scariest part is, I'm on that path. Some day, that woman could be ME. And I refuse to let that happen. This really hit me hard and the woman had originally wanted to tape her jouney to help others realize they need to seek help and fix their weight to live their lives. And I feel like it was a sign from God and this woman Renee. This is my year, and next year my resolution will be to MAINTAIN the weight I've lost and just live my life. I'm ready to start loving myself and life.

Hi Kelly,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you found my blog. And I'm happy to help however I can.
For me, the easiest way I got followers to my blog in the beginning was to find other blogs similar to mine and follow them and comment on their blogs (regularly). Its all about community and support. If I see someone commenting on my blog who' going through the same thing I'm going through, I'm more likely to go visit their blog and support them through our shared struggles.
You'll also need to commit yourself to your blog regularly. If I found a new blogger who I wanted to follow, and then they stopped blogging after a few weeks or if they started blogging less frequently, I was less likely to come back.
If you need accountability through your blog (like I do), don't be afraid to tell people that. Thank them for stopping by your blog. Or blog about them and then go and tell them on their blog comments.
Another way I got followers in the beginning was to tell all my family and friends about my blog and ask them to stop by. I even passed around my website address at work. The more people who knew about my blog, the better I would do in my weight loss, so I know what you're going through.
I like the way you've got your blog set up with the about me, message to you and why you blog. When people first come here, they'll know you need help and they'll be more likely to come back.
Most importantly, be patient. It took me MONTHS before I started getting regular comment-ers.
Good luck and let me know how it's going.
I have to be honest with you about something, though, I don't have a whole lot of time for blogging and as a result, I usually just blog on my own blog and don't visit many other blogs. It's terrible, I know, but I wanted you to know that so in case you notice that I don't stop by or comment on your blog. It's not because I'm not being supportive, it's just that my life right now is about the fullest it's ever been. I truly don't even have time to blog any more but I make time for at least that. I miss visiting other blogs and being a part of the community of blogging, but I have to focus on my family commitments first. But, please keep commenting on mine, so I'll know how you're doing. And feel free to leave me any questions. I really am happy to help however I can. You can email me, too: carashow at gmail dot com.

Hi! I just saw you added me on BlogtoLose. :) I'm definitely in the same boat as you are with the new year resolutions. I refuse to make the same resolution next year and hopefully we'll be laughing at this and running marathons. ;)
ReplyDeleteDo you have a specific diet you're following?
It sounds like you have a great attitude for all these changes you're making! Thanks for the friend add on Blog to Lose. It's such a great community!
ReplyDeleteI also have a weight blog, feel free to check it out :) http://kitchenconfessional25.blogspot.com
I applaud you for taking control of your weight now, in high school. Me, I lost a little in high school, then regained when I got to college. It's been a yo-yo ever since, including losing 100+ pounds in 2 years on Atkins (and then regaining 70 in the next 2 when I started eating carbs again.) I've since joined WW and have lost about 50 of them again, with 20 more to go to get to goal.
ReplyDeleteI saw your plea on Blog to Lose ... I, too, would like to have more followers for my blog. You can check it out if you want. It's arlene-adventuresinweightloss.blogspot.com
